  6. I hope you'll enjoy this collection of FRACTION FONTS for the Macintosh. But, before you begin to experiment with them, please take time to read this brief document.

  8. GETTING STARTED  . . . . .

  10. Okay, let's get going. First, what's stored on the Fraction Fonts MTT disk you're examining? (By the way, that's an acronym for FRACTION FONTS - Macintosh TrueType.)

  12. 1.  Read Me 1st! -- The ASCII file you're reading.
  13.  
  14. 2.  FF-MTT.DOC -- A Microsoft Word 4.0 info/demo document that shows and tells all about FRACTION FONTS for the Macintosh. Open it after you've installed the FRACTION FONTS.

  16. 3.  16 FRACTION FONT TrueType fonts, all stored inside a single suitcase named FF #1 (TT). (Note: These are companions to Helvetica and Times.)

  18. 4. Order Form -- Your ticket to a full collection of FRACTION FONTS (66 in all) to match the TrueType equivalents of the PostScript fonts resident in PostScript printers. Just $25.00!!!

  21. INSTALLATION  . . . . .

  23. Installation of FRACTION FONTS requires System 7. If you're still using System 6.n or less, go no farther. The TrueType FRACTION FONTS won't work.

  25. 1. Drag the FF #1 (TT) suitcase ONTO your SYSTEM FILE located in your system folder. (Don't just drag it into your system folder.)

Instructions for using FRACTION FONTS are in FF-MTT.DOC. Take time to open this document, print it out, and play with it on-screen before using FRACTION FONTS in your favorite applications. (If you don't have Word 4.0, let me know. I'll export a copy in MacWrite format, but can't guarantee how the translation will work. I don't have MacWrite.)

  33. POSTSCRIPT PRINTER OWNERS

If you plan to print to a PostScript device, be sure that the "Font Substitution?" box in the "Page Setup..." dialog is CHECKED. If you forget, the beautiful fractions that you see on screen will be printed in Helvetica or Times gibberish. Remembering this is especially important when outputting a document to a file that will be typeset by a PostScript image setter. We're talkin' about wasting big bucks!!!

  37. SHARING FRACTION FONTS  . . . . .

I encourage your sharing FF-MTT.SEA (that you originally downloaded) with your friends. All I ask is that you pass it along in its entirety (not just the fonts) so they'll have access to the installation instructions. (And, of course, the Order Form, my information service IDs, and my mailing address.)

  41. Also, if you have any Windows-using friends, give them a FRACTION FONTS for the Macintosh demonstration. FRACTION FONTS also are available in Windows format.

As a matter of fact, FRACTION FONTS also are available in PostScript Type 1 format for both Windows and the Macintosh. These have been generated from the same master outlines, so they'll work for anyone with ATM and a PostScript printer. (I personally prefer Type 1, but I'm a purist with a love affair with Type 1 PostScript fonts.)
